Glass in a technical building is a working component
In an engineering or industrial facility, glazing is specified against duty. Control rooms need continuous supervision of a process and freedom from glare on screens. Observation panels need to be clear when the process is being watched and closed when a client or a competitor is on site. Compartment lines have to be rated, and they still have to be seen through.
Applying the range against an operational brief
Switchable glazing gives observation and control positions two defined states — supervised and closed — without a blind that will not survive the environment. Light and heat control keep screen-based control positions usable on exposed elevations. Fire-rated assemblies keep compartment lines glazed where the fire strategy allows it, so supervision is not lost to the safety case.
