Photochromic Film
It responds to the sun, so nobody has to
A light-reactive film that darkens as the sun loads the elevation and clears as it leaves — automatic, with no switch and no supply.
- UV rejection
- 99.9 %
- Infrared rejection
- 80+ %
- Glare reduction
- Up to 90 %
- No supply required Reacts to incident light — nothing to wire or switch.
- Specified to project drawing Grade selected against elevation and use.
- Technical values confirmed in writing Source-stated figures verified before specification.
Overview
Photochromic film changes tint in response to the light falling on it. There is no switch, no cabling and no schedule to maintain: the glazing simply gets darker when the sun is on it and clearer when it is not.
That makes it well suited to spaces where nobody is going to operate a control — circulation, meeting rooms used by many teams, and residential glazing where the requirement is comfort rather than a managed system.
Benefits
The reasons clients give, rather than the reasons a datasheet gives.
-
Blocks 99.9% of UV radiation
Protecting occupants, finishes and merchandise from the ultraviolet component of daylight.
-
Rejects over 80% of infrared heat
Intercepting the part of the solar spectrum that arrives as heat.
-
Reduces screen glare by up to 90%
Making computer screens, televisions and projected images readable through the day.
-
Protects interiors from fading
Furnishings, joinery, artwork and stock hold their colour longer.
-
Available as safety and security grades
Optically clear safety and security films keep glass held together on impact.
-
No control system to run
No wiring, no switch and no schedule — the film responds on its own.
Features
The working principle, from incident light to clear state.
-
Solar radiation strikes the film
Ultraviolet and visible light reaching the glass drive the photochromic layer toward its darkened state.
-
The film darkens progressively
Tint deepens as incident light increases, so the response tracks the sun across the elevation through the day.
-
Heat and glare are intercepted at the glass
The film blocks the stated 99.9% of UV radiation and over 80% of infrared heat energy, with glare from screens, televisions and projectors reduced by up to 90%.
-
It clears again as light falls
As the sun moves off, the film returns toward its clear state and daylight is admitted without intervention.
